Changchun and Jilin cities in Northeast China's Jilin province have been shortlisted as candidates for the 2021 China's Happiest Cities list, according to local media reports.

The happiest cities selection, hosted by the Oriental Outlook magazine and the Xinhua News Agency Liaowang Institute, evaluated cities countrywide based on a variety of indexes that span employment, resident incomes, public safety, education, transportation and healthcare.

This year's selection will be conducted through big data collection, questionnaire surveys, material declarations, field surveys, and expert reviews.

The final list will be released in October.
