A media delegation visited the Changchun New Area in Northeast China's Jilin province on July 22, as part of a large-scale media event launched in the province, to promote an in-depth understanding of the area and its achievements.
The area has recorded consistent economic growth, with GDP hitting 82.39 billion yuan ($12.74 billion) in 2020, for year-on-year growth of 8.9 percent.
The growth rates of its GDP and industries above a designated scale have been ranked fourth and third, respectively, among the 19 national-level new areas.

In the first half of the year, the new area's GDP was 42 billion yuan, while the output value of industries above a designated scale was 43.47 billion yuan and fixed asset investment was 17.17 billion yuan. Compared with the same period last year, the figures showed growth of 13 percent, 23.8 percent, and 27.6 percent, respectively.
Earlier in May, the construction of an innovation and entrepreneurship demonstration base in the Changchun New Area won recognition from the State Council, China's Cabinet. It was reportedly one of five national new areas to win such recognition.
Changchun Beihu Science Park, located in the new area, is surrounded by national scientific research institutions, national key universities and university science parks. These include the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Moreover, it has abundant scientific and technological resources, obvious advantages in terms of its top-flight workforce and a dynamic atmosphere that encourages innovation and entrepreneurship.
The science park brings together enterprises focusing on innovation and entrepreneurship, and it has become a pilot zone for the economic restructuring of the entire Changchun New Area.
The number of various incubation carriers in the new area has now grown to 144 – attracting nearly 2,000 tech-based enterprises and 810 high-tech enterprises – and the market's innovative vitality is said to have been galvanized.
