Jilin province reports 43 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases
Northeast China's Jilin province reported 43 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases and 34 new asymptomatic cases on Jan 18, the province's health commission said Tuesday.
Of the 43 newly confirmed cases, 36 were re-categorized from previously reported asymptomatic cases.
The confirmed caseload in the province reached 83 as local transmission followed the first asymptomatic carriers returning from neighboring Heilongjiang province, including 25 in Changchun city and 58 in Tonghua city.
The abovementioned new confirmed cases and asymptomatic cases were found by medical screening during the centralized quarantine and medical observation period and expanded nucleic acid testing.
Of the 83 cases, 14 patients are in critical condition.
Jilin on Monday designated 15 areas as medium-risk areas, bringing the number of medium-risk areas in the province to 24, People's Daily reported.
