Jilin province grain output remains stable during 13th Five-Year Plan
Since the implementation of the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20), the annual grain output of Northeast China's Jilin province has been continuously stable at more than 35 billion kilograms, according to local media reports on Nov 3.
In 2019, the total grain output of Jilin province reached 38.78 billion kg, an increase of 2.45 billion kg compared with 36.33 billion kg in the previous year, an increase of 6.7 percent.
The net increase ranked first in the country, accounting for 41.2 percent of the increase in grain output in the country.
Last year, the cultivated area for grain in the province increased from 83.02 million mu (5.53 million hectares) to 84.67 million mu.
The mechanization rate for crop cultivation and harvesting increased from 82.5 percent to 89.2 percent year-on-year and it was expected to reach more than 90 percent in 2020.
Over the past five years, Jilin has continuously strengthened its agricultural infrastructure construction.
It has also actively promoted the implementation of disaster prevention and mitigation measures, as well as promoted green high-quality and efficient technology.
The province has consolidated and improved its grain production capacity -- playing an important role in ensuring national food security, promoting economic and social development and increasing farmers' incomes.
By the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) period, 35 million mu of high-standard farmland will have been established in the province, accounting for one third of the total cultivated land area.
The drought resistant sowing capacity for the drought-prone areas in western Jilin will reach 25 million mu.
