Jilin national center for applied mathematics starts operating
The launch ceremony for a national center for applied mathematics was held at Jilin University in Changchun -- capital city of Northeast China's Jilin province on Aug 10 -- according to local media reports.
At the ceremony, cooperation agreements were signed between the center and nine companies, scientific research institutions and medical institutions.
Center officials said the Jilin provincial applied mathematics center was originally established in 2019 when it was jointly constructed by Jilin University, Northeast Normal University and the Jilin Province Computing Center.
On Feb 26 this year, the center was selected as one of the first batch of 13 national-level applied mathematics centers and became the Jilin National Applied Mathematics Center.
Center officials added that in the future, the center will focus on the national development strategy of strengthening mathematical research.
It will take "mathematics+" as its theme and use mathematical ideas, mathematical methods, mathematical discoveries and mathematical rules to guide innovative practice.
And it will also focus on creating a "Digital Jilin", looking at new energy vehicles, biomedicines, satellite data applications to promote Jilin province's development in an all-round way.
The national center for applied mathematics is a national scientific research platform approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Officials said the construction of the center mainly focuses on mathematical problems in the major scientific and technological tasks of the country.
And it focuses on the major projects, regions and important needs of developing companies, promotes the convergence of mathematics with engineering applications and industrialization -- and strengthens cooperation and communications between mathematicians and scientists and entrepreneurs in related fields.
