The master plan for the Changchun international auto city was launched on July 28 in Changchun -- capital of Northeast China's Jilin province -- during the Second Hongqi Carnival, according to local reports.
The Honqi carnival kicked off earlier this month in Changchun. Organizers said the carnival features 15 activities, including a parade of Hongqi vehicles, a Hongqi vehicle marathon and livestreaming activities -- showcasing culture and development of FAW's iconic Hongqi brand of cars.
Officials at the July 28 launch of the auto city plan said an opening ceremony for the Hongqi innovation tower and a parade of classical Hongqi cars were also held on the day.
They said that the FAW Group in Changchun is hailed as the mainstay of China's auto industry and Hongqi of FAW is an icon of the national auto brands.
In the wake of the launch of the plan for the Changchun international auto city, it is expected that FAW Group and Changchun city will seize the opportunity to revitalize the auto industry.
Officials said they will accelerate a raft of major projects, such as the construction of the Hongqi new energy vehicle production center.
Changchun city and FAW Group reached an agreement on building a Hongqi new energy plant during the event and FAW also signed agreements with other companies -- including China Railway Construction Corporation Limited, China CITIC Bank and China Everbright Bank -- to build a Hongqi town in the auto city.
