The Momoge National Nature Reserve, located in Jilin province's Zhenji county is known as China's hometown of white cranes, and covers 144,000 hectares. It is a typical wetland type of protection zone and a main stop for migrant birds in Northern China each spring and autumn.
The reserve has extensive fish resources and water plants, which makes it a kind of rare bird paradise. According to official statistics, there are six kinds of cranes, namely white cranes, red-crowned cranes, hooded cranes, white-naped cranes, common cranes and virgoes, all on view here during migratory stops that can last as long as 70 days.
Furthermore, visitors can also see various kinds of fish, amphibians, large animals and other bird types in the reserve.
The wetland area covers more than 80 percent of the entire reserve, earning the reserve the title of "the liver of Jilin province".
