Xiu Laigui
Jilin.net and the app ‘JiTime’ interviewed Xiu Laigui, a deputy to the Jilin provincial People’s Congress on Jan 15 in Changchun. Xiu provided answers to the questions on Jilin’s severe ‘brain drain'.
Xiu said, "The priority for the government is to build a better Jilin. It’s the only - and wise - way to attract talented people. No one would voluntarily relocate from hometowns without something to attract them," Xiu said.

According to figures from the National Development and Reform Commission, China's northeast has lost more than 1 million people in the last 10 years, many of whom have been well educated high earners, who move seeking better jobs and lifestyles.
The information was released to counter earlier reports that northeast China - a geographic term that mainly includes Helongjiang, Jilin, and Liaoning provinces - was losing 1 million people each year.
Nonetheless, Xiu pointed out that the issue cannot be resolved overnight. The government should be aware of the current situation and adopt specific measures, such as providing opportunities for graduate and talented groups to reflect their individual values throughout their careers.
In addition, the development of the ‘real economy’ should also be highly regarded by the authority.
Xiu added, "Good products represent strong development of China’s real economy. Enterprises at all levels should guarantee the quality of their products and services, and try their best to continue to make their quality better."
