Zhao Jimin: It's vital to train younger professors
In the annual work report, released at the 6th session of the 12th Jilin Provincial People's Conference on Jan 15, emphasis was placed on "strengthening the construction of teaching staff in colleges".
Zhao Jimin, a provincial people’s representative and professor with 30 years of teaching experience, similarly believes that professors are the root to improving educational achievement in China.
"High-quality teaching staff are the key to cultivating excellent students with innovative spirits," Zhao said. "There are three ways to build excellent teaching teams - introducing talent, recruiting qualified professors and training younger teachers, among which cultivation of the younger generation is the most significant part."
"Younger professors can quickly become leading powers in academic research under the guidance of experienced professors, and can go on to develop innovative programs," Zhao added.
The increase of high-quality young professors represents a growth in overall teaching quality, which contributes to a better education environment.
Zhao suggested that cash bonuses and lifelong support should be adopted to encourage young people to pursue the profession.
Additionally, the government should pass more preferential policies to retain completeness within the training cycle, in order to guarantee that more and more younger teachers can become leading teaching staff and develop more innovative teaching methods for students.
