May for beer
Paulaner brewpubs at the Kempinski hotels in China, will hold Maifest this month, with a special maibock beer. The symbol for bock beers is the goat, and this being the Chinese zodiac's Year of the Goat, we'll be heading over for a pint. Expect a slightly more floral aura to the hops in your foaming tankard. The seasonal beer is available for just a few days in most cities, though Shanxi's provincial capital, Taiyuan, will get more of it.
Paulaner restaurants in Kempinski hotels: May 7-10 in Beijing; May 6-12 in Changsha; May 14-16 in Dalian; May 14-16 in Yinchuan and May 1-31 in Taiyuan.
Change of event
Great Leap Brewing has announced the cancellation of the 2015 Beijing Craft Beer Festival, scheduled for early June at Galaxy Soho, as municipalities around China are limiting the assembly of unpredictably large crowds. The good news: The brewery will host a full week of events at it's three locations from June 7-13, showcasing Beijing's own craft beer culture, as well as breweries from around China.
