International cooperation and exchange

(chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2016-09-02 13:42

Jiangxi Normal University has vigorously carried out international cooperation and exchange. It has established friendly relations with more than 50 institutes of higher learning from 17 countries and regions. Its academic scores are recognized by 28 foreign institutes, with which faculty and student exchange programs have been developed. The university receives students from 14 countries and regions, and has built key labs with more than 10 scientific organizations at home and abroad.

The Confucius Institute jointly built by the university and the University of Tananarive, Madagascar, was named a global model twice. The university has many long-term foreign faculty, including Constance Gibson, who was honored with a national Friendship Award.

In 2011, the university began to take foreign students who received scholarships from the Chinese government and was approved to offer joint computer science master program with the University of Leicester, in the UK.

In 2012, the school built its second Confucius Institute with the University of Illinois. The university's exchange programs have now covered all of its disciplines. It encourages its students to enter whichever programs interest them.

Exchange programs The university has students on exchange, and in double degree and summer vacation programs.

I. Exchange student program: Students study at a foreign institute which has established cooperation with Jiangxi Normal University for a semester or a year and then return to the university. The academic credits from abroad are also transferred.

II. Double degree program: Students study at the university for the first three years and then go to a foreign institute for the fourth year. They receive academic degrees from both Jiangxi Normal University and the foreign university.

III. Summer Vacation program: Students spend two or three weeks studying abroad during summer vacation.

Program advantage

I. Easy to get visa: It is relatively easy for students to get a visa. To date, no student has been denied a visa to participate in exchange programs.

II. Double degree: Students graduating from the double degree program receive degrees and diplomas from both the university and the foreign institute. All certificates are recognized by both governments.

III. Further education abroad: Exchange programs give students foreign country experience, making it easier for them to get admitted to foreign universities and win scholarships. Many students who joined exchanged programs have been admitted by well-known foreign universities.

IV. Job competitiveness: Employers value foreign experience. It is easier for those with foreign experience, especially foreign language students, to find work.

V. Good management: Programs are designed by the two institutes jointly, and responsible teachers are on hand for them for guidance during the whole process. VI. Cost saving: Because of good relations between the university and foreign institutes of higher learning, students may get tuition reduced or even exempted when joining exchange programs.

A total of 160 students joined exchange programs in 2015, and all of them stayed for at least a semester. There were 113 students on short visits to education facilities outside the mainland.
