Jinlong village in Changsha county, Hunan province, has recently been selected as a national model village in overall level of civilization.

The nationwide selection of civilized villages, among other categories such as civilized cities, counties, and towns, was initiated in December, 2014, and the result was announced by officials in Beijing on Feb 28.

Jinlong village is located in the town of Jinjing and boasts beautiful ecological environment, sound infrastructure construction, as well as rich spare time activities.

It has already got such honors as national ecological village, provincial model village for the construction of new socialist countryside, and provincial civilized village.

The clean energy consumption rate in the village has exceeded 80 percent, and the green areas covered almost 90 percent of the village, said Song Haiyan, the village's Party branch chief.

In recent years, the village has spent more than 200 million yuan ($3.19 million) for infrastructure investments to ensure residents' water, electricity, road, gas, and communications needs, and also to build a new elementary school, high-standard kindergarten and a village library.

Jinlong village is home to several private enterprises, including the well-known Changsha Jinlong Foundry Industry and the Jinjing Tea Factory, which provide ample job opportunities for local villagers.

The villagers have also set up a gong and drum team as well as a basketball team to enrich their leisure time. Last year, they also put on their own Spring Festival Gala in the cultural and sports center of the village and won applause from thousands of local residents.
