Yuelu district in Changsha city ranks first in the 2014 annual assessment on "crackdown of multiple property crimes" in 30 major counties (county-level cities, districts) in Hunan province.
The district has recently launched a "24-hour police patrol" program to ensure the public security and stability during major festivals like the Spring Festival holiday.
The Xianjia Lake neighborhood in the district has set up 65 public security patrol stations in an area of four square kilometers, and the number of theft cases in the neighborhood has dropped by 50 percent since the introduction of the "24-hour police patrol", said Tan Wenyao, the deputy head of the public security patrol detachment in the neighborhood.
The 2014 annual assessment on crime crackdown has been conducted by the Hunan Provincial Public Security Department.
