Types 2017, a touring exhibition which showcases the beauty of and creativity involved in type design, is now underway at the Advertising Museum of China at Beijing's Communication University of China.

The exhibition comprises four sections. One focuses on the evolution of kaishu (the regular script) by showing stone rubbings of the calligraphy of old masters such as Wang Xizhi, Yan Zhenqing and Ouyang Xun, and prints and tools that illustrate the use of kaishu in everyday life; it also features a selection of Chinese character types developed by fonts developer Founder, which has organized the exhibition.

The second section is the TDC 62 Traveling Exhibition showcasing the works of more than 300 type design winners from the New York Type Directors Club's 62th annual competition. Founded in 1946, TDC promotes typography.

The third section features dozens of international posters and the fourth has documents from the collection of Berlin-based researcher and designer Jan Middendorp that show the variety of Latin types.

The exhibition was opened on March 11 together with the launch of Founder's new type designs. Meanwhile, the company has launched its ninth type design competition.

The exhibition, which is on until March 25, will travel to other cities including Shanghai, Nanjing and Xi'an.
