Floral objects, especially lotuses, have made recurring appearances in 93-year-old Zhang Jie's ink paintings. About 100 of his paintings are on display at the Poly Art Center, showing his decades-long exploration to modernize ink painting techniques.
Born in Shanghai, Zhang sharpened his brushwork under the discipline of Lyu Fengzi, a well-established ink painter and fine art educator. Zhang studied at the Zhengze Fine Art School in Danyang, Jiangsu province, which was founded by Lyu. He moved to Taiwan for a teaching job after graduation in 1948, and became a professional painter in 1968.
The exhibition lasts until March 12.
