Cello fans treated to carnival dedicated to instrument

Initiated by Chinese cellist Zhu Yibing, China's first cello carnival, "Super Cello 2017", will be held at the National Library Arts Center in Beijing from April 28 to May 1.

The four-day festival will feature 13 concerts and 12 classes given by 21 cellists from 14 countries, and a series of lectures and exhibitions.

The artists include genius Israeli cellist Gavriel Lipkind, Peruvian and Uruguayan descendant Claudio Bohórquez, German cellist Julius Berger, and two French cellists Roland Pidoux and Raphaël Pidoux.

Chinese-Swiss cellist Wen-Sinn Yang and Chinese-Australian cellist Li-Wei Qin, were also invited and will bring their music to Chinese audiences.

"There is no best music in the world, only those melodies you like best," Zhu said. "We aim to let people feel various styles of these cellists from different schools."

In 2016, Zhu held a mini cello festival in Beijing, which attracted a lot of cello fans. He decided to expand it into a real carnival for people who are fond of cello.

"From the evening of April 28 to May 1, no matter which corner you stay at the art center, you will hear the beautiful sound of cello," Zhu said.
