Art Beat in June

Britain's Philharmonic Orchestra will give two concerts on the 10th anniversary of Shanghai Oriental Art Center. Conducted by Vladimir Ash-kenazy (pictured above), the concerts will feature young pianist Alice Sara Ott. The theater's six-level organ, one of the first in China's music halls that will be featured in the performance of Saint-Saens' Symphony No 3, will be a highlight.

American ballet

Richmond Ballet will present Made in the USA: Traditions and Innovations. The program includes Valse Fantaisie, a classical style tribute by George Balanchine; John Butler's After Eden, a narrative of Adam and Eve's exile; Ershter Vals, created for the company by award-winning choreographer Ma Cong; and Swipe, a fusion by choreographer Val Caniparoli.

Taiwan theater

U-Theatre from Taiwan will present its new production Beyond Time. Its works feature a combination of martial arts and percussion. The company was founded by Liu Ruoyu and her husband, Huang Chih-chun, in 1984. It has more than 20 members who live in a commune and practice gymnastics, meditation and music daily.
