Jiao Yulu (1922-1964) was a devoted county Party secretary and a symbolic hero who dedicated himself to the improvement of local people's lives and the development of Lankao county of Henan province in the early 1960s. His story will be adapted into a theater play and be staged in 2014. In 1962, Lankao county faced severe destruction of the natural environment, and Jiao led the local people to pull the county out of poverty and backwardness. Jiao died at 42 from liver cancer, and he was buried in Lankao. Renowned Chinese actor Li Xuejian (right), who played the lead role in the 1989 film Jiao Yulu, has been invited to be the artistic director of the play. Jiao's grandson, Yu Yin (left), will play the role of Jiao.
