The bugle on display is donated by an old Red Army soldier Zhang Shengrong who walked the whole path of the Long March from October 1934. Zhang joined the Red Army at 12, and started the Long March with the bugle at 15.
In early hours on May 25, 1935, when Liu Bocheng and Nie Rongzhen directed soldiers to cross the Dadu River, Zhang rushed to the frontline and blew the bugle to inspire soldiers.
Zhang recalled that the river was more than 100 meters wide and cliffs were on both banks at Anshunchang in Sichuan province, and he watched the 17 soldiers use a small wooden boat to cross the river successfully.
