The Kazak ethnic group, with a population of 1.5 million, mainly lives in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, Gansu province and Qinghai province.

Most of the Kazaks are nomads and make a living through animal husbandry. However, a group of Kazak people decided to settle down in a small village near the Tianshan Mountain in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. The village is developed into a theme park of Kazak culture.

A glimpse of Kazak culture

A Kazak yurt in the park. People of Kazak ethnic group migrate to look for pastures as the seasons change. In spring, summer and autumn, they live in collapsible round yurts and in winter build flat-roofed earthen huts in the pastures. In the yurt, living and storage spaces are separated. The yurt door usually opens to the east, the two flanks are for sleeping berths and the center is for storing goods and saddles; cushions for visitors are placed in front. Riding and hunting gear, cooking utensils, provisions and baby animals are kept on both sides of the door. [Photo by Liu Jing/chinadaily.com.cn]
