Rescuers have risked their life and limb driving trucks weighted down with big stones into turbulent water in an attempt to block floodwater after a dike in Central China's Hunan province breached around 11 am on Sunday.
Police have been patrolling along the coast in east China, part of precautions against typhoon Nepartak.
Hundreds of residents in Shaziling village in Central China's Hubei province were trapped in floodwaters after a nearby river swelled and breached the dyke under torrential rains on the night of July 4. Rescuers rushed in to help villagers and pulled them to safety.
After fixing a safety rope to himself, Liu Xiaopeng jumped into the water to cross the swelling river, which was as wide as 80 meters in places, and reached the stranded people.
