China hopes Myanmar will achieve national reconciliation as early as possible, and that Beijing pays high attention to the safety and stability of the border, President Xi Jinping said on Tuesday.

Xi made the remarks at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing while meeting visiting Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, the current commander-in-chief of the Myanmar Armed Forces.

Mentioning that bilateral ties have been strengthened in recent years, Xi said the two countries should deepen cooperation to benefit people of both sides.

The president spoke highly of military exchanges between the two countries, saying the two sides should make joint efforts to safeguard common interests and regional peace.

Myanmar pays high attention to the development of ties with China, General Min Aung Hlaing said, adding that Myanmar was dedicated to cooperation with China in all areas.

Myanmar is willing to work with China to deepen military cooperation and safeguard the peace and stability of the Myanmar-China border, he said.
