China is continuing to talk with related parties over the Ukrainian issue and would like to play a constructive role for a political settlement of the issue, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Saturday.
"China upholds a fair and objective stance over the Ukrainian issue, and we've made it clear several times," Wang told a press conference at the ongoing annual sessions of the National People's Congress and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
It is a pity but not accidental for Ukraine's situation to reach today's level. It also reflects the complicated historical backgrounds and conflicts of interests behind the issue, said Wang.
"The more complicated the issue is the more prudently we would address it," he said.
Wang also called for related parties to keep calm and restrained and avoid escalation, for the interests of the Ukrainians as well as regional peace and stability.
"We should bring the Ukrainian issue to the track of political settlement through dialogue and consultation," he said.
