The third session of the 13th People’s Congress of Zhangjiagang and the third session of the 11th Political Consultative Conference took place in Zhangjiagang from January 6-7, 2014.

Delegates made proposals about different aspects of society.

Lu Xiuqing, a delegate of the 13th People’s Congress of Zhangjiagang, talked about street food booths.

“Some barbecue booths will harm the environment and affect traffic, so I hope there will be someone to regulate the booths. The government could also issue related regulations,” said Lu.

Dong Wei, a delegate of the 13th People’s Congress of Zhangjiagang, discussed agricultural enterprises.

“I work in an agricultural company, so I pay more attention to agricultural issues in the government work report. It encourages us to develop modern agriculture and set up our own brands,” Dong said.

Dong said he will propose improving land quality to enhance productivity to increase farmer incomes.

Huang Lei, a delegate of the 13th People’s Congress of Zhangjiagang, gave suggestions on public transportation.

Huang suggested the city gradually suspend paper tickets used on buses and use electronic tickets.

Huang also said more discounts should be given for those using citizen cards to take public transportation. At present, residents in Zhangjiagang only get 5 percent off, but in nearby cities such as Suzhou and Wuxi, the discount reaches 40 percent.
