Senior official urges deeper military graft inspections

BEIJING - A senior military official has called for more anti-graft inspections in the army to focus on high-ranking officials.

Xu Qiliang, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks at a meeting where inspection results were reviewed and future plans were set, according to a statement publicized on Tuesday.

From April to June, the commission sent two teams to inspect leading Party officials in Guangzhou and Chengdu military commands. The campaign is now expected to be widened.

"Be adept at spotting problems and make real efforts to punish, save, educate and mould people into shape," Xu told disciplinary inspection officials.

He said inspections should focus on fields that are susceptible to corruption such as personnel selection and promotion, construction projects, real estate and equipment procurement.
