China's top prosecuting department has issued a notice to improve compensation standards in criminal cases, according to the Supreme People's Procuratorate on Wednesday.
The SPP said in a statement that the daily compensation in criminal cases will be increased to 200.69 yuan ($32.08), a climb of 18.34 yuan ($3) from 2013.
According to the National Compensation Law, if a member of the public's personal freedom is violated, the daily compensation will depend on the average daily salary for workers in the previous year.
In 2013, the annual average salary for urban residents of non-private sectors was up to 51,474 yuan, the National Bureau of Statistics released on Tuesday.
