Mother of slain medical student gets Mother's Day gifts

The mother of Huang Yang, the 29-year-old medical student at Fudan University in Shanghai who was poisoned to death by his roommate Lin Senhao, received Mother's Day presents from Huang's classmates.

Yang Guohua was given scarves and purses by a number of students. Both Yang and Huang Yang's father Huang Guoqiang are currently unemployed.

Every night before going to bed, both use their son's smartphone and read the Weibo and Wechat accounts that his son followed.

Lin was sentenced to death for murder in February.

More than 175 students have written letters of petition to the Shanghai Higher People's Court on Lin's behalf and have asked the court to give him a second chance. Huang’s parents have insisted that the murderer should be sentenced to death.
