Guiyang Intermediate People's Court started the trial of Cheng Mengren, former deputy head of Guizhou Transport Department and his mistress, He Wen, who are accused of taking bribes, on Monday.
Prosecutors accused Cheng of receiving properties valued at 20.57 million yuan ($3.3 million) from 2002 to 2012. He Wen was accused of accepting 18.04 million yuan.
Cheng, who had the power to decide many road and related projects, told his subordinates to award some projects to He, who then “sold” the projects to contractors.
