A police officer in Haikou, capital of Hainan province, was sentenced to 10 years in prison because he earned money by deleting online posts for others, Hainan Special Zone Daily reported on Tuesday.
The officer, surnamed Wei, 34, is former deputy chief of the Internet supervision police team of the city's public security bureau. He got more than 700,000 yuan ($112,725) from 11 people to delete online posts for them from 2009 to 2012.
In making the ruling, the Longhua district court of the city, which tried the case recently, decided that Wei's behavior constituted bribery.
