Zhongshan, the Pearl River Delta city of Guangdong province, signed 184 contracts valued at $4.97 billion with investors from outside the city during a trade and investment fair held on Friday.

The contracts signed during the fair include 95 projects signed with offshore investors, according to Feng Yurong, deputy mayor of Zhongshan.

The Sino-foreign contracts were valued at more than $1.36 billion.

"With the improvement of the city's infrastructure facilities, Zhognshan is still one of the favorite destinations of foreign investment," Feng said.

In addition to new and hi-tech projects, the overseas investments have gone to construction of the city's traditional industries of household appliances, electronics, medicines, lighting, and kitchen and bathroom fittings.

Zhongshan also signed 1,978 export orders valued at $2.37 billion during the fair.
