The Guangdong Industry Association of Emergency Management is partnering with the Institute of Industry Technology Guangzhou under the Chinese Academy of Sciences to establish a research center for technological innovations.

Founded in 2012, the association will provide consulting services on business operations and management, said He Xinsheng, vice-president of the association. It will also work to improve the public's awareness of and ability in handling emergencies, He said.

There are roughly 2,300 businesses in the emergency management industry in Guangdong employing more than 1.4 million people and generating output worth more than 420 billion yuan ($68.4 billion), He said.

Most of the companies are located in the Pearl River Delta region in the province and span a number of sectors including emergency power generating equipment, telecommunications and vaccine and medicine, he said.

The team of emergency management experts hired by the Guangdong provincial government pledged in its work plan this year to promote the development of the emergency management industry in the province.
