Indonesian airline joins Skyteam alliance

Garuda Indonesia, the flag carrier of Indonesia, joined the airlines alliance of Skyteam, which includes four Chinese companies, on Wednesday.

The Indonesian carrier is the 20th member of the alliance and its addition will provide 40 new destinations to Skyteam's global network. The alliance covers more than 1,000 destinations, which offers a lot of opportunities for Garuda, especially in China, said Emirsyah Satar, president and CEO of Garuda Indonesia.

China Southern Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Xiamen Airlines and China Airlines are all members of Skyteam. Garuda currently has 21 weekly flights from three destinations on the Chinese mainland to Indonesia.
