Zhanjiang, a major city in Guangdong province, hopes to strengthen its cooperation with Germany, especially in an economy environment-friendly industrial park under construction for steel and petrochemical projects.
Zhanjiang Mayor Wang Zhongbing made the remarks when he met with Stefan Gallon, consul-general of Germany in Guangzhou, and Oliver Regner, a delegate of German Industry & Commerce in Guangzhou, on Wednesday.
The steel project by Baosteel Group in Zhanjiang is expected to turn out 10 million metric tons of steel annually. The petrochemical complex is designed to process 15 million tons of crude oil and produce 1 million tons of ethylene annually. The projects are located on Donghai Island in Zhanjiang.
German company SMS Siemag is involved in the construction of the steel project. A number of lecturers at colleges and universities in Zhanjiang come from Germany.
The city government plans to set up a trade office in Germany later this year, Wang said.
