18 injured in S China land dispute

The Dongyuan county bureau of public security in Guangdong province has set up a task force to investigate a dispute over land requisition in which 18 people were injured in the county's Zhangxi She township on Sunday, Guangzhou Daily reported.

Those wounded, including some seriously, included three police officers, seven auxiliary police, two villagers and six workers from a cement factory. The injured were taken to a hospital for treatment but no lives were in danger.

Two cars and six motorcycles were also damaged during the dispute over land requisitioning, which took place between the cement factory workers and residents of the township's Shanglan village at about 4 pm.

The dispute was finally brought under control at about 9 pm after police officers became involved.
