Liaison mechanism to be set up across Straits |
Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, will meet visiting Kuomintang Honorary Chairman Lien Chan in Beijing this week, a spokeswoman said on Monday.
Lien, also chairman of a foundation on cross-Straits peaceful development, is scheduled to arrive in Beijing on Monday evening, kicking off a visit lasting through Thursday, Fan Liqing of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office said at a regular press conference.
Both Lien and Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, will attend a symposium on cross-Straits exchanges, she said.
During the visit, Lien will also visit sites related to the city's urban construction and countryside, Fan added.
Calling the visit "meaningful", Fan said, "We welcome and encourage people from various fields on the two sides to boost exchanges, enhance communication, increase mutual understanding and kinship, and make joint efforts to push forward the development of cross-Straits ties."
