Number of companies applying for licenses in Guangzhou surges

Guangzhou handled 964 applications from companies looking to register in the provincial capital of Guangdong in January, according to a press release from Guangzhou Customs on Monday.

The number of applications rose 67.7 percent compared to the same month last year.

The Guangzhou government implemented changes to make it easier for businesses to apply for a license this year.

No initial capital is required when businesses apply for a license. In previous years, capital was required.

The lower threshold has helped spur the establishment of companies in the city, according to the press release.
