OperationEarth, a non-governmental organization that supports wildlife research, announced its Scientist of the Year on Thursday in Beijing.
Four scientists - Professor Richard Bodmer, who specializes in Amazonian biology and conservation; Zhang Heping, director of the China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center; Dr Geoffrey Wahungu, who monitors wildlife populations and habitats in Africa and Australia; and Xiao Wen, who studies Yunnan Snub-nosed monkeys - were awarded the title.
"I believe life of wild animals will get better," Xiao said at the awarding ceremony.
The organization also awards distinguished young volunteers and international cooperation projects.
