A 51-year-old woman in Foshan, Guangdong province, has contracted the H7N9 bird flu virus and is in critical condition, the provincial health and family planning commission said on Wednesday.
Cui, the patient, bought a live chicken at a wet market and slaughtered the chicken before she fell ill.
As of Wednesday, the province had recorded 10 cases of the H7N9 bird flu virus. One person died from the virus, and two people have been cured.
