I am all for better China-US relations.  Hope is better than no hope.  Friendship is better than enmity.  But to have hope and friendship, there must be first a moral basis for that hope and that friendship.  All the major non-extremist religions accept the truth that one must not do unto others what one does not want others to do unto himself.  Exceptionalism by virtue of strength will not work.  It only excepts oneself from the possibility of peace and its fruits of lasting prosperity.
