BALI, Indonesia - CY Leung, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), on Sunday reiterated his government's commitment to hosting a successful APEC Finance Ministers' Meeting in 2014 to reinforce Hong Kong as an international financial center.
Leung made the remarks at a press conference after he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Bali on the sidelines of APEC Summit.
"The HKSAR Government attaches great importance to its relations with other APEC members," said Leung who arrived in Bali on Saturday for the 2013 APEC meeting.
He added that Hong Kong hoped to make use of its advantage as an open and internationalized city to attain the goal of joint development with other APEC members.
Leung also met Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Sunday afternoon, the first since he assumed office in July last year.
Finance ministers, as well as senior central bank officials of APEC member economies, will gather in Hong Kong for the ministerial meeting in September 2014 as China takes the helm of APEC next year.
"The APEC FMM will serve as a valuable opportunity to promote the latest development of our financial sector, thereby highlighting Hong Kong's role as an international financial centre, " Leung said.
Hong Kong joined APEC in November 1991 together with China and Chinese Taipei.
