BEIJING -- China's relationship with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) remains a priority under the country's new leadership, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Tuesday.

In a congratulatory message to Le Luong Minh, ASEAN Secretary-General, on the 10th anniversary of the establishment of a China-ASEAN strategic partnership, he said China and ASEAN jointly created a "golden decade" and achieved fruitful results in various areas, as they shared development opportunities on the basis of mutual respect, equal treatment and good neighborliness.

China's new leadership will continue to strengthen and deepen the country's strategic ties with ASEAN, and is willing to further promote the China-ASEAN strategic partnership and East Asian cooperation.

Le Luong Minh said in his message of congratulation to China that ASEAN-China strategic ties have been continuously enhanced since 2003, and cooperation between the two sides has expanded to political, security, economic, social and humanity fields.

ASEAN and China need to find a new sustainable pattern to further strengthen and deepen their strategic partnership in the future, Le Luong Minh said, adding ASEAN hopes for close cooperation with China to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
