More than half of Chinese families, including younger members and adults, still enjoy economic supports from their old parents or grandparents, the Legal Evening News reported on Monday.

A survey released by Horizon, a consulting company, shows that in 52.4 percent of 1,125 respondents aged over 60 said senior family members spend more on their children than children's spending on them.

Most senior's spending on their children is to help them buy houses, cars or other urgent payouts, according to the survey.

A total 29.3 percent of the older parents provide funds to their children to buy houses and 12.7 percent help buy cars. Meanwhile, about 43.5 percent of elders spend money on their grandchildren.

Some experts attributed such a phenomenon to the worsening employment market.
