Jeanswest University
To review
The No 4 classroom building on the campus of Tsinghua University, one of China's elite colleges, took on the name of a popular clothing company, the Hong Kong-based Jeanswest Clothing in May. A golden-colored plate bearing the name of the company was affixed on to the wall of the teaching building. The move gave rise to much debate among students. Some students thought the use of the company's name was not in keeping with the university's status as an elite institution in China.
We say
Every school has donators. To name the building of a campus after the donator is a usual practice all over the world. Jeanswest is not a top-grade brand, but Tsinghua is a top grade elite university. So the public said the jeans did not fit. But the truth is the university should treat all donators fairly. If the name is really improper, the university should refuse the donation like the reportedly did for a famous liquor brand.
