BEIJING - China's Ministry of Railways said Saturday families of foreign travelers who were killed in last month's deadly train collision will get the same compensation payment as families of Chinese victims.
The decision was made in light of the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Laws Applicable to Foreign-related Civil Relations and the Tort Law of the People's Republic of China.
The ministry denied media reports that an Italian victim got 30 million euros in compensation.
The ministry said last month it will pay 915,000 yuan ($134,558.82) in compensation for each victim of the high-speed train crash.
The train crash happened on July 23 near the city of Wenzhou in east China's Zhejiang Province when train D301 rear-ended train D3115, leaving 40 people dead and 192 others injured.
