KUALA LUMPUR - The Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) Youth of Malaysia hopes more Malaysians to explore the world through visiting the Expo 2010 Shanghai.

MCA Youth chief Wee Ka Siong told Xinhua here on Friday that the expo is a great venue for Malaysians of all levels to explore the world as they will be exposed to the uniqueness of each participating country at their pavilions.

The MCA Youth has been actively promoting the expo by holding forums in several states in the country, said Wee, who is also the Malaysian Deputy Education Minister.

The MCA Youth is organizing 12 trips to the Expo 2010 Shanghai which will be held from May 1 to October 31 this year, Wee said in an interview.

The MCA Youth started to organize visit groups to the expo at the end of last year, including booking tickets and hotels and other trip arrangements.

"We booked the tickets and hotels as early as end-2009 to prevent price hike when booking at the very last minute," explained Wee, adding that university students could enjoy a 10 percent travel fare discount.

Admitting that some Malaysians knew little about the expo, Wee said that they would still gain much knowledge by attending forums organized by the MCA Youth. He hoped that the forums would ignite Malaysians interests to visit the expo.

As the participating countries of the expo have been striving to showcase their best elements in terms of technology and culture to the world, Wee stressed that the event should not be missed.

When asked about the memorable experiences in organizing such trips, Wee said that it was interesting to find that members of the opposition parties expressed their interests in joining the trips together with the MCA Youth.

He also said that Malaysians of all races were welcomed to join the trips, adding that some of them had approached the MCA Youth as they believed that MCA Youth members could help them explore business opportunities in China as almost all MCA Youth members can speak Mandarin and communicate with Chinese citizens much easier.

Themed "Better City, Better Living", the Shanghai expo emphasizes much on green agenda. Wee believed that many countries would exhibit their latest environmental friendly technologies worth visitors' attention.

He also said that visitors, particularly the university students and young people, could gain much knowledge about the world.

The MCA Youth has expected 2,000 participants to join their trips to the expo. To date, the first trip, which will be led by Wee, has seen over 150 registrations, exceeding the 120 target.

Wee said that the MCA Youth will organize 12 trips to the expo.

Besides visiting the expo, participants of the trips will also visit other places like Hangzhou.
