Xiamen to open its pavilion before Expo

Xiamen will steal the first show at the upcoming Shanghai World Expo as it will be the first city to open its pavilion ahead of the expo opening ceremony on May 1.

With the honor of "proper residence city" and "international garden city" awarded by the United Nations, the southeast coastal city will embody the theme of "proper residence" with city symbols in their pavilion located in the urban best practice area.

At the gate, visitors can play an imitation piano melody by touching the projected "piano notes" to feel the glamour of "island of music", a label assigned to Gulangyu (a tour resort island of Xiamen famous for its Western-style buildings and collections of ancient pianos). A 3-D projection will show the scenic coastal resorts and landmark city constructions.
