Chinese premier in Macao for 2-day visit

MACAO -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived here Saturday morning, kicking off his two-day visit in Macao, where he would attend the third Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries.

It is Wen's first official visit to Macao.

The Chinese premier will deliver a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the forum, according to the conference agenda.

Addressing media at the airport, Wen expressed the central government's concern and support for the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

Later in the day, Wen will meet Fernando Chui Sai On, chief executive of the Macao SAR, and senior officials of the Macao SAR government.

On Sunday, Wen will pay a visit to the University of Macao and some well-known local scenic spots, where he will have close contact with Macao citizens.

The Portuguese-speaking countries attending the forum include Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal and Timor-Leste.
