An Expo forum opened in mid-June to discuss the rise and fall of Gansu Province on Silk Road in history and the northwestern province's urbanization.
Experts and officials discussed topics such as Gansu's urban planning, environment and clean energy, transformation of mining cities and protecting relics and urbanization in Dunhuang City, which is known for its rich historic relics.
Expo 2010's theme "better city, better life" will showcase people's reflection on civilization during development, said Qin Yucheng, an expert of human habitation environment and urban planning studies.
Gansu should showcase its advanced technology of wind energy, solar energy and nuclear energy during the Expo so that the world will know more about the province, Qin added.
Gansu, through which the once prosperous ancient trade route connected China and Europe, boats a galaxy of historic sites and cities. The province is also famous for its natural resources and mining industry. The province will hold its exhibition inside China Pavilion.
Expo Shanghai Forums are categorized into summit forum, theme forums and public forums. The forum in Gansu is one of the public forums. Public forums intend to discuss specific issues for urban development and spread the Expo’s theme message among the public through various events.
One hundred public forums will be held before and during the Expo.
