China and Japan are expected to hold a dialogue on security and defense policies by the end of this month in Tokyo, a source familiar to the matter said on the sidelines of the ongoing Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference session in Beijing on Wednesday.

The last time the dialogue was held was in 2006, and the resumption of the talks will help promote mutual trust and improve bilateral ties, a senior official, who declined to be named, told China Daily.

Foreign affairs and defense officials of both countries will attend the talks. China will send an assistant foreign minister to the meeting.

A message from the ongoing annual session of the National People's Congress (NPC), or the parliament, tells saving energy and protecting environment is a big government agenda.
