Theater at Urumqi bazaar reopens after riot

URUMQI: A large theater at the International Grand Bazaar in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, reopened Saturday evening, after nearly 20 days of closure since the deadly July 5 riot.

A tour group from northern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and more than 100 Urumqi citizens appreciated the traditional dances and tasted indigenous meals at the Yanyi theater.

The hall on the first floor of the threater, the largest of its kind in Xinjiang, can hold 600 audience.

Prior to the riot, the threater's revenue a day was about 500,000 yuan ($73,200), according to managers.
